The likes of Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez may have done sterling work with their performances at Joe Biden's inauguration yesterday (20 January), but it seems someone on the internet thought there was still some room for improvement - having edited Barry from EastEnders into proceedings.

And you know what? It totally works:

While we're not sure who's responsible for the masterpiece, the video was shared by the @Scouse_ma Twitter account, with the caption: "Sorry what is going on."

It's already racked up more than 4,000 likes and 1,000 retweets, although it turns out not everyone quite got the joke.

One person commented: "Why is Barry Evans singing at the White House?"

Someone else asked: "Is this real, is that actually Barry singing this there?"

To be clear, neither Barry nor his real-life counterpart Shaun Williamson performed at Joe Biden's inauguration. It's called technology!

Williamson hasn't responded to the bizarre and brilliant clip yet, but he has given it a retweet, so clearly finds it as humorous as we do.

In fact, someone played the same stunt four years ago when Donald Trump was sworn in as US President, meaning it's now a long-running internet joke.

While Williamson sadly couldn't make it to the big bash yesterday, Lady Gaga was on hand to bust out a powerful rendition of the national anthem, 'The Star-Spangled Banner' - dressed as if she was about the enter the Hunger Games, no less.

Tweeting ahead of her performance, Gaga wrote: "Singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honor. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change - between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning.

"My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land."

Jennifer Lopez also stepped up with a patriotic mash-up of 'This Land Is Your Land' and 'America The Beautiful'.

Midway through, the 51-year-old also broke from song to deliver a phrase in Spanish, which was: "Una nacion, bajo Dios, indivisible, con libertad y justicia para todos."

After various pleas on social media for someone to translate what she said for the world's non-Spanish speakers, it's transpired the singer and actor - who is of Puerto Rican descent - was quoting the Pledge of Allegiance, saying: "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
