There's an unlikely new face of KFC in the chain's latest ad, which has seen one Game of Thrones star step straight out of Westeros and into the famous white suit and specs:

That's right, Icelandic Game of Thrones star Hafþór Júlíus 'Thor' Björnsson has been announced as KFC's new Colonel Sanders - and we think we're into it, though he's looking pretty unrecognisable with all that white hair.

The ad sees 'an oversized Colonel' (who we all know as 'The Mountain' from the hit HBO show) pull a legendary amount of oversized chicken sandwiches, breaking a world record for the fake news segment while also conveniently advertising KFC's Double Crispy Colonel Sandwich.

The ad is, of course, referencing Björnsson's achievements in strongman competitions. Earlier this year, Björnsson - who is 6 foot, 9 inches tall and nearly 400 pounds - set a new deadlift world record at the Arnold Strongman Classic.

It may have taken him three attempts to successfully deadlift a whopping 472 kg (1,041 lb), but eventually he managed - not only setting the new world record, but also earning himself a nice little $5,000 cheque.

GoT fans seem to be into the new ad, with one tweeting: "Hearing the sentence 'the mountain plans to deadlift a ton of chicken sandwiches' is more of an almagamation of my interests than it is an English sentence to describe a marketing ploy by KFC."

Another wrote: "Take a bow KFC. This is how it's done."

Earlier this year, KFC welcomed another famous face to step into the famous white suit, as country music legend Reba McEntire became the first woman to become Colonel Sanders.

Appearing in her first TV spot, Reba could be seen donning the white hair, goatee and thick-rimmed specs, throwing a hat onto a real-life version of herself stood in the audience while singing that she is 'not a woman'.

"I grew up with Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's part of my story, and I'm so excited to now be part of theirs," McEntire said of taking on the iconic role.

"I've held a lot of roles in my life - sort of like the Colonel himself - but this is certainly the most unique one yet."

Other stars to have recently played Colonel Sanders also include actors Rob Lowe and Billy Zane - who's next?
