Back in June a poll named Tom Hanks the greatest actor in entertainment history, but it turns out the Hollywood star is also just a really good guy too.

The Toy Story actor surprised his fans in California by showing up for a burger at the Fontana branch of In-N-Out - while there he posed for pictures, spoke to customers and even paid for everyone's lunch.

His trip was documented on Instagram by the baffled customers. One person, Megan aka bookcauldron13, posted: "Tom Hanks is at In and Out sitting across from us I'm star struck!!"

Megan was sat across from the 62-year-old, and his wife Rita Wilson, making it easy to get a few cheeky snaps. Along with the photos she commented that Hanks was a 'nice guy'.

She posted: "He is such a nice guy taking pictures with everyone....he told us Merry Christmas. And I went over and talked to his wife Rita while Tom took pictures with everyone!"

"He said they were on their way home and stopped for a bite to eat," she added, "He didn't say where he was on his way home from though."

Another person posted two pictures on Twitter - one a selfie with Hanks, another with his wife - along with the comment: "I had the absolute honour of meeting the one and only Tom Hanks and his beautiful wife Rita Wilson! The coolest people I've ever met!"

The Oscar winner has finished voicing Toy Story 4 which is said to be released in Summer 2019.

The next instalment of the Pixar classic is set to be a real heart-breaker according to Tim Allen (AKA Buzz Lightyear).

Hanks also shared some news about the upcoming, and hotly-anticipated, animation. Only last month he explained how the recording the last scene in Toy Story 4 a 'moment in history'.

Speaking on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Hanks, who plays cowboy Woody, told Chris Evans: "The way you record Toy Story, you're in a room with the team that has created it.

"When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually, you're facing him, so he can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn't want to see them and pretend they couldn't see me.

"When I realised what they were going for, I realised, 'Oh, this is a moment in history.'"

That's not loads to go on but what we do know is Tom Hanks isn't just an amazing actor who's had some iconic roles, but he's a pretty awesome guy too.
