Viewers watching Joe Biden's inauguration at home reckon Lady Gaga's performance looks like it's straight out of The Hunger Games, with many people saying her outfit makes her look like she's ready to take part in some dystopian fun over in Panem.

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, lent her powerhouse vocals to the US national anthem during the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The singer made a grand entrance in a red and black dress, with a large gold bird (a dove carrying an olive branch, to be precise) decorating her chest - an outfit that reminded many people of the best-selling young adult novels and their film adaptations.

One person tweeted: "Lady Gaga out here looking like hunger games aint she?"

Someone else asked: "Why'd Lady Gaga show up to the Inauguration Party dressed like she's kicking off the Hunger Games?"

They added: "When Klobuchar leans into the mic at the end of the party and says 'May the odds be ever in your favor' and we all look at each other and just start running."

Another said: "Lady Gaga is giving me Hunger Game vibes #InaugurationDay#Inauguration2021."

A fourth added: "Lady Gaga looking like she at the ceremony in The Hunger Games."

Tweeting ahead of her performance, Gaga wrote: "Singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honor. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change - between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning.

"My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land."

Gaga's rendition of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' was followed up by a performance from Jennifer Lopez, who sang a patriotic rendition of 'This Land Is Your Land' and 'America The Beautiful'.

After arriving in Washington DC yesterday, Lopez shared a selfie with National Guard troops, saying on social media: "What an honor to spend a few moments with these brave men and women. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. I honor you today and everyday.

"Tomorrow I sing for you and all Americans."
