Will Smith has joked that he feels 'responsible for a lot of the misinformation' surrounding coronavirus (Covid-19) in the latest episode of Red Table Talk.

During this latest edition of the series, the family - including his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, their daughter Willow, Will's son Trey and Jada's mum Adrienne Banfield-Jones - spoke about the current pandemic and informed people about what they need to know.

The 51-year-old Hollywood actor spoke right at the start, saying: "I wanted to do this because in 2008 I made I Am Legend so I feel responsible for a lot of the misinformation."

He continued: "Just as a family we've been sitting down and we've been talking and when I was preparing for I Am Legend, my character was a virologist.

"So I had an opportunity in my preparation for the role to go to the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] and there's a basic foundational comprehension of viruses and viral pathogens that I developed and it really changed my life and how I looked at the world and there's basic concepts that people do not understand."

I Am Legend is set in New York City - it follows Robert Neville (played by Smith) after a virus, which was originally created to cure cancer has wiped out most of mankind, leaving Neville as the last human in the city.

Neville is immune to the virus and he works to develop a cure while defending himself against hostile mutants.

During this most recent Red Table Talk, 48-year-old Jada, who has been married to Smith for 23 years, spoke of her eagerness to understand the coronavirus.

She said: "Just like other families around the world, we are trying to navigate all the information out there about Covid-19."

She went on to add that her and Will's son, Jaden, wasn't present for the episode, explaining: "He is actually being a responsible young person.

"He is practising social distancing, he has been doing a lot of travelling and his main concern has been about Gammy [Jada's mum, Adrienne] so he has decided to stay indoors and he's actually following orders."
