A 6ft 7" Man Drove His Car While Standing Up

Amazingly, got arrested.

The government is really clamping down on dangerous driving with the new rules about driving and texting, but Adam Elliott was really taking the piss when he thought he'd drive standing up.

I'm amazed that anyone would even have the coordination to do that. How did he not crash?!

Described as the Big Friendly Giant in Noddy's car, the 26-year old terrified drivers who saw him out in Newcastle. Even the police who were following him were pretty freaked out.

The 6ft 7" driver can barely fit into his Ford Ka convertible as it is, but he decided to take his car out for a jolly and mix it up a bit. He was seen sitting on the headrest, driving with his knees while going over the Tyne Bridge. And he got arrested. I mean, what did he think would happen?

He's been given a nine-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months. And he's also got a £100 fine and ordered by Judge Robert Adams to pay £1,500 in prosecution costs.

Elliot also has to carry out 150 hours of rehabilitation activity and can't drive for two years.

Judge Adams said: "It's about time you grew up, took responsibility for your actions and recognise the danger you could cause to other road users by your stupidity."

He tried to claim that he wasn't standing up at all, but was just really tall.

Kevin Wardlaw, who was prosecuting, said: "At various times the defendant was either standing up or in the vehicle with his feet on the driver's seat, his knees either side of the steering wheel, steering with his knees.

"At various times he waved to passing motorists as their attention was drawn by virtue of his seating position."
