The call has made the youngster and his family very happy.

Daniel Downing was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour when his mum thought he just needed glasses. Since receiving the awful news, his family have been campaigning to get actor Ryan Reynolds to call him, as Daniel is a massive fan of the Marvel Universe.

But when the call finally came through, the British youngster asked if it was possible to Facetime Reynolds, who was on the set of Deadpool 2 at the time.

His mum Stephanie has told the Plymouth Herald: "Daniel picked up the phone and Ryan asked if he knew who he was. As soon as Daniel realised, he asked if he could FaceTime him and then he was very, very hyper."

Daniel says the camera crew waved to him and the five-year-old told Ryan how his health was and how his friends were making him feel better.

But Daniel wasn't alone during the call; his mum, step-dad, older brother and two baby sitters got to watch on.

Stephanie says: "I'm so happy for Daniel - it's something he wouldn't normally have been able to do and he was so excited. He told all his friends and his teachers. It's nice to see him so excited because he has been a bit down lately."

Her best friend, Biffy Lynch, describes Daniel as 'full of life, mischievous, polite, intelligent, innocent, and above all, loving'.

Unfortunately for Daniel and his family, the treatment to prolong his life as long as possible is 200 miles (321 kilometres) away from his home. To help them pay for transport and living costs, Biffy has set up a JustGiving page, which has absolutely smashed its initial target of £6,000 ($7,850) by 250 percent and is currently at a little more than £15,000 ($19,600).

According to the page, Daniel's cancer, called pontine glioma, is very aggressive and patients usually have about nine months to live after diagnosis. It adds: "There are no words that any of us can say that will erase the pain and fear for this loving family. If together we can raise enough money by each finding a few spare pennies, so that it is one less thing for them to worry about right now, allowing them to focus on Daniel and Jack, then that would be an amazing gift."

While the call from Ryan Reynolds might not have helped his condition, Daniel and his family says it's done wonders for their spirits to see the youngster so happy.
