Rapper and actor 50 Cent has paid tribute to Pedro Jimenez, a crew member of his Starz series, Power, who was killed on set on Monday morning.

63-year-old Jimenez was a production assistant for the series, who had been setting up cones on a street in Brooklyn at around 4.20am when he was hit by a car.

The driver of the 2006 Ford Explorer that hit him remained on the scene.

Following the accident, Jimenez was transported to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

50 Cent, who is executive producer on the show, led tributes by taking to Twitter to offer up his 'prayers and condolences' to the 'entire Jimenez family'.

According to Variety, a Starz spokesperson said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of the members of our Power family.

"Our thoughts are with Mr. Jimenez' family as we work to fully understand what has happened."

Other stars from the series have also paid their condolences online, with actor Naturi Naughton writing: "Truly shocked and saddened! Losing one of our own really hit home today."

Joseph Sikora also wrote on Instagram: "Pedro Jimenez, a member of the POWER family, lost his life today. Thank you for always having a smile and bringing so much love with you to set. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family."

Omari Hardwick, who plays lead character James 'Ghost' St Patrick in the show, said the day had started as 'a regular ole workday for every one of us', but that it soon descended into 'tragic, tragic news'.

Hardwick continued: "On this 'just another work day', we all were and are faced with the harshest of realities that a wife has lost her husband, children their father and friends... Their beautiful hardworking GRACIOUS Pedro.

"As the QB of this show and as the face of the network, this has of course affected me. But as a person in communication and exchange of spirit as much as Iwas with good ole Pedro... I'm rocked.

"NO team ever imagines losing a teammate. Let alone like this. On behalf of ALL of us here at Power, we send our deepest condolences to the entire Jimenez family and God, we ask that you warmly receive our good ole Pedro. Please send up prayers for the Jimenez family while loving on your own."

Out of respect for Jimenez and to give cast and crew some time out, filming for Power has been halted.
