The trailer has just dropped for the second season of The Sinner, and BOY does it look good:

Yup, we've officially got chills.

Jessica Biel tweeted an exclusive first look of the highly anticipated second season - which will be out on 1 August -tweeting: "Once again, we know WHO did it... but we don't know WHY."

Fans already seem sold, with one tweeting excitedly: "Yesss!! Can't wait!!! Counting down the days!!"

Someone else commented: "Good god this looks intense," while another agreed, saying it looks 'scary and intense'.

"Damn... I'm still recovering from season 1. This looks great though." another person wrote.

"Thank you LORD!! Can not wait to see this now.... I hope this series runs and runs it's definitely got legs to do it #thesinner," someone else said.

We recently found out that our new protagonist will be Fargo and Avengers: Infinity War actress Carrie Coon.

She'll be playing a mysterious character called Vera, who is described as a 'formidable, mysterious woman who struggles between upholding the ideals of the community she leads and fulfilling her own desires'.

Natalie Paul will also play detective-in-training Heather, while Hannah Gross will star as Marin, Heather's childhood pal.

Biel, meanwhile, is unlikely to feature in the new series - a theory that's bolstered by the fact that she's nowhere to be seen in the new trailer. However, it's not all bad news, as she will be staying on as an executive producer.

In terms of what we can expect for the plot, a season synopsis teases: "In the wake of the Cora Tannetti case, Detective Harry Ambrose is called back to his hometown in distant rural New York to assess a disturbing new crime: an 11-year-old boy's horrific double-homicide & his seemingly inexplicable motive.

"As Ambrose comes to realise there's nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, his investigation leads him straight into the hidden darkness of his hometown and pitting him against those who'll stop at nothing to protect its secrets."

Critics went absolutely wild for the first season, an adaptation of Petra Hammesfahr's mystery novel, with Brian Tallerico confessing he was 'totally hooked'.

It's even got a rating of 94 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, which is no easy feat.

Here's hoping its follow-up can continue the amazingly intense legacy laid down by the first instalment.
