Filming for A Quiet Place 2 has finally kicked off, with locals around New York State, sharing exciting snaps from around the area showing production in progress.

According to WGRZ, residents in Olcott were seen lining the streets to watch the shoot in action, with several roads shut down for the filming.

"There was a big crowd of people trying to see something, but they had security," Newfane Town Supervisor Timothy R. Horanburg told The Buffalo News about a recent night shoot in the area.

Buffalo Library also shared a photo of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt on Instagram.

Confirming they were in the area for the shoot, writing: "You never know who you'll run into at the library! @johnkrasinski & Emily Blunt, in town to film #AQuietPlace2, with @newsteadlibrary Director Kristine Sutton!"

According to The Post-Journal, the production will feature 300 background actors working a total of 1,335 shoot days, which in turn will create 400 hires and invest more than $10 million in Upstate New York.

Krasinski, who directed and wrote the film, and also starred alongside real-life wife Emily Blunt, was initially hesitant to pen a sequel. However, the incredible response from viewers forced his hand.

In an interview with film website Deadline, he admitted: "I'm surprised people aren't like, 'Nah, we know what this is, and we just want to leave it as it is'."

Krasinski continued: "To be perfectly honest, it was never really on my mind while we were making it. I never really thought of it as an expanded world; I always thought of it as a one-off.

"The thing that I loved in the movie, where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up.

"How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?

"In the extreme these characters are going through, there's no room to think about that. They're there, there's an old man who's about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what's going on elsewhere at this same time."

He also told the website in December last year that the new movie would focus on brand new characters, rather than the Abbott family around whom the first film revolved.

"We have the world, and you can drop whoever you want into that world and everyone feels connected to it," Krasinski said.

"The reason I decided to go back, in the end, was this world is so rich, and it's so much fun to explore. There are so many different things to see now. Everyone else in the world is experiencing this, so I'm curious to see what that looks like from another perspective."

A Quiet Place 2 is due to hit cinemas on 20 March 2020.
