A Ridiculous Amount Of Films Are Getting A 2016 Remake

A Ridiculous Amount Of Films Are Getting A 2016 Remake

Will you be watching any?

2016 is definitely the year of the remake. Judging by past experiences, remakes are terrible. Like, really bad.

Evil Dead for example. That one still stings, I'll be honest.

Also, Godzilla, Planet of the Apes, The Karate Kid, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... do I need to go on?

However, it seems that the big movie bosses have literally run out of ideas. So, they're willing to risk everything to remake some true classics. Will they buck the trend and actually be decent? Or should these films have been left well alone? I guess only time will tell.

First up, Ghostbusters.

Everyone loved Ghostbusters growing up, it was an institution. You still can't go to a fancy dress party without seeing someone dressed up as one of the team. Or that's just the people I hang out with - who knows?

Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are going to be in the remake which is (obviously) an all-female leading cast.

Once again, another class film. It originally came out in 1996 and many of us will remember it as mind-blowing. Arguably, one of Robin Williams' (RIP) best ever films.

So far, the remake's cast and script is a closely guarded secret. How are they going to improve on the original cast? Only time will tell. However, the director has recently been revealed as Jake Kasdan. Not heard of him? Yeah... he directed Bad Teacher and Sex Tape which both did really badly. Fingers crossed that his bad luck is over.

Independence Day

Another 1996 classic. Independence Day was (and still is) one of the best films ever. In my humble opinion. Okay so technically it's not a remake (phew) but a sequel. I couldn't write this article without including it though, could I? Apparently, it will be set in the present day, and humanity has to face another invasion threat in the aptly named Independence Day: Resurgence.

The Exorcist

This terrifying horror film came out in 1974 and prevented millions of people from sleeping for weeks after. It's still referenced in TV shows and films to this day, which exemplifies its longevity.

It was recently announced that the classic will be remade into a TV series, The Exorcist Chronicles. Hmm. Don't quite know how I feel about that. The story of the series will follow a priest, played by Neil James, while he investigates a series of deaths linked to a demon.

Back in 1991, this thriller made waves with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze taking the lead roles.

The remake is not far away, the release date being February 5 (why haven't we heard more about it?!) However, it has already been released in China and has received scathing reviews.

Baywatch, Spider-Man and The Magnificent Seven are among the other films and TV shows being remade this year.

Should they be left well alone? Probably. Am I still going to be first in line when Independence Day: Resurgence comes out? Definitely.
