Apparently Phoebe Was Never Supposed To End Up With Mike In 'Friends'

Apparently producers changed their minds last minute!

Arguably the most under-rated character Friends ever produced was David, the scientist who broke Phoebe's heart by moving to Minsk just as their love began to blossom.

David was loveable, goofy, charming and a bit of an idiot, which is what made him so endearing.

When he left in season one, I was upset. When he came back in season seven I was pretty hyped but that was short-lived too. And then when he returned in season nine I thought bloody hell finally they can fuck off this Mike bloke and give Phoebe the happy ending she deserves.

Unfortunately for me, and all the other die-hard David the scientist guy fans out there, it was not to be.

Mike, played by Paul Rudd, won the day and married Phoebe.

But that's not how it was supposed to play out.

The man who played David, Hank Azaria, recently spoke to The Huffington Post where he revealed producers initially wanted Phoebe to end up with him, not Mike.

However, producers were so taken with Rudd's portrayal of Mike that they decided to re-write the script and have David lose out.

He said: "The plan always was kind of to bring [David] back.

"I think, honestly, what happened was Paul Rudd is so awesome that they sort of found a groove with him and [my character] became more of just the grist for that mill. As opposed to the other way around.

"Whatever part of me is David the science guy who went to Minsk, which admittedly is probably a small part of me, but that part of me wanted to end up with Phoebe. So I was sort of sad when I didn't."

I'm sad too David but you are starting to sound a bit like a bitter jealous ex. Might want to tone that down, lad.
