If you loved the movie It and are craving something new to put the shits up you, then this is probably what you've been waiting for. Especially if you're also a fan of all things 1990s.

Paramount Players has revealed that plans are moving forward to adapt the spooky Nickelodeon show Are You Afraid Of The Dark? into a feature-length film. And, as Variety reports, it'll be produced by Matt Kaplan and It co-scriptwriter Gary Dauberman will be in the writing chair.

The original series was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, and ran on Nickelodeon between 1992 and 1996. It was also rebooted for one season in 1999, but without most of the original cast.

The Canadian series centred around a group of kids who called themselves the Midnight Society. In each episode they told scary stories to each other, a number of which were based on fairytales and urban legends, albeit updated for the modern world. Or the modern world as it was then, anyway.

Paramount Players is a new division at Paramount Pictures - funny, that - led by Brian Robbins, the founder of AwesomenessTV, which itself is a joint venture between DreamWorks Animation and Verizon Hearst Media Partners.

All of which is a convoluted way of saying that the pedigree for this reincarnation of the TV show is pretty top notch, so we really can't wait for the trailer to emerge. Or the whole thing, for that matter.

It, of course, was based on Stephen King's classic (and terrifying) 1986 novel of the same name, and broke all manner of box office records when it was released in cinemas earlier this year.

The film also broke audiences out in sweats thanks to its spot on use of suspense and Bill Skarsgård's incredibly creepy and unsettling portrayal of Pennywise The Dancing Clown.

So it's fair to say that our expectations for this are definitely on the high end. And while lovers of the original series might balk at the idea of another remake, we're hoping it's in good hands, because we really, really want to be afraid of the dark.
