It's no secret that the Disney-Marvel combo were likely to make an absolute mint off Avengers: Endgame, but it's set to rake in a ridiculous $2 billion (£1.518bn) after its second weekend, according to Variety.

Its current total makes it the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time, behind the series' previous movie Avengers: Infinity War, which took $2.048bn.

Endgame's box office figures were boosted thanks to the $329 million (£254m) it made in China - whereas Infinity War wasn't released in the country until two weeks after it was released elsewhere.

Avengers is set to cross the $2 billion mark this weekend.

Depending on how much it makes this weekend, it could rise to become the third highest grossing movie of all time, passing Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

All it would have to do then is beat Titanic's $2.187 billion and Avatar's $2.788 billion and it would officially be the highest-grossing film of all time.

Avengers: Endgame tickets accounted for more than four out of every five tickets sold at US cinemas in its first weekend after release. That's a LOT of tickets.

Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn told Variety: "Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team have continued to challenge notions of what is possible at the movie theatre both in terms of storytelling and at the box office.

"Though Endgame is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend's monumental success is a testament to the world they've envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world."

The film is the 22nd to be released in the MCU. It boasts an unreal star-studded cast, which includes Paul Rudd, Robert Downey Jr., Brie Larson, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Josh Brolin.

The film has gone down well with both fans and critics.

The franchise kicked off all the way back in 2008 with Iron Man and the films have proved to be very lucrative, pulling in more than $19bn at the worldwide box office

Endgame has been popular with viewers and critics alike, with reviewers branding it 'a masterful epic' and 'an astonishingly amazing film'.

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it's currently running at an impressive score of 95 percent, as well as 8.9/10 on IMDB.

Can't say we're surprised really!
