It's under six months until the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe hits our screens.

Thor: Ragnarok is due for release in October 2017, and is the seventeenth instalment from the Marvel Comics range.

The premise of the film sees the it set four years after the events of Thor: The Dark World, when the title character was held captive on the planet Sakaar without his infamous hammer.

He now must win a gladiatorial duel against The Hulk in order to return to Asgard in time to stop the villainous Hela and the impending Ragnarok - the doom of the Asgardian civilisation.

(Ragnarok, by the way, is described as a series of future events, with a great battle, which results in the death of a number of major figures.)

The new trailer offers a closer look at Hela, before some impressive shots of that Hulk v Thor match-up which we cannot wait for.

So, it looks like there's a pretty big responsibility for Thor is this film.

Comments on the Marvel YouTube page sensed fans anticipation for the movie.

One wrote: "Wow, this is gonna be one of the best Marvel movies ever." While another added: "This is what happens when you don't invite Thor and The Hulk to your little get together, Iron Man and Captain America."

Of course, as standard, Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, with Tom Hiddleston alongside as Loki.

Cate Blanchett will play the dark Hela, and the film also features Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum and Grandmaster and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.

It's hard to believe that next year will mark 10 years since the Marvel Comics film adaptations began to hit our screens with Iron Man.

The first Thor film followed three years later and made $449.3m across worldwide box offices. In 2013, the last Thor film, The Dark World, raked in over $644.5m.

He may be good at fighting evil, but Thor last year proved that he's not so clever when it comes to keeping hold of his possessions.

Seventeen-year-old Tristin Budzyn-Baker found Chris Hemsworth's wallet on the floor of a restaurant in Los Angeles.

He returned it to the actor, with all the money inside, and when the two met up on the Ellen DeGeneres Show he gave the kid a wad of cash as a thank you.

Both a LAD on and off screen it would seem.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok has a release date of 27 October 2017 in the UK, and 3 November 2017 in the US.
