The Trailer For One Of The Scariest Looking Movies Of 2017 Has Dropped

This looks genuinely terrifying

I'm a massive fan of scary movies, so I was eager to see whether It Comes At Night would live up to the eerie title.

Directed by Trey Edward Shults (Krisha), the film stars Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby), Riley Keough (Magic Mike), Christopher Abbott (James White) and Carmen Ejogo (Selma).

Edgerton, his wife and his son live in a compound in the middle of nowhere to get away from an unknown threat. A desperate family stumbles upon their hideaway and asks if they can stay.

That's when things get interesting. Check out the trailer here:

The film is already rated 8.3 out of 10 on IMDB with nearly 64 percent of responders giving it a perfect score.

This new trailer reveals a bit more than the teaser released in February, but is arguably a lot more terrifying.

It Comes At Night will come up against some strong competition for the horror flick of 2017. Its biggest competitor will be the highly acclaimed Get Out, the psychological thriller directed by actor Jordan Peele, who is most notably known for his comedy work.

It follows a black man going to visit his white girlfriend's parents for the first time in upstate New York. But things quickly get weird when they hit a deer with their car.

Before the movie was released, Rotten Tomatoes reviewers had given the movie a 100 percent rating. Benjamin Lee from The Guardian said: "Get Out is designed to lift the facade of post-racial America and showcase the ugliness that lies beneath. What's quite astounding is not only how sharply he manages this but that he does so while also crafting a terrifying horror film.

But there are plenty of scary remakes and sequels for those who love the genre.

We'll be getting another Alien movie from Ridley Scott, which looks pretty decent - although the franchise has had plenty of sequels with the same format so it will be interesting to see if this instalment mixes things up a bit.

Stephen King's incredibly good clown horror novel It has been reimagined and rebooted. The trailer for the 2017 version was an exact copy of the 1990 TV miniseries, which starred Tim Curry as the evil clown murderer. Let's hope the movie lives up to the hype.

Everyone's favourite killer doll is also planning to chill viewers to the core with yet another movie: Chucky 7 is expected to be released in October and will pick up where 2013's Curse of Chucky left off.

Another movie scheduled to come out in October is Saw: Legacy, the eighth film in the franchise, with Tobin Bell in the role of Jigsaw once again to torture and terrorise a group of unsuspecting victims. We'll see how that plays out considering that the previous few films haven't performed well at the box office.

And for the horror buff who's really making blood-coloured notes on the calendar, here's another load of old school reboots in the pipeline: Hellraiser, Amityville, Children of the Corn and Halloween.
