The original is an Oscar-winning film that is not only loved for its tense action, but probably equally famed for its theme song.
"Watching in slow motion, as you turn around and say..."
That's right, now you're all visualising walking towards a fighter jet with your aviator sunglasses on. Welcome to the world of Top Gun.

Since 1986, we've been enjoying the original movie, but now Tom Cruise has revealed some exciting news.
It will have a sequel. There will be a Top Gun 2.
The news was confirmed on the Australian morning show Sunrise, as the smiley action hero did the rounds promoting The Mummy.
When pressed on the matter of second Goose epic, Cruise said: "Yes, it's true. It's true."

Not only is the film happening, but there has also been a strong hint on when we could expect the release.
"You know what?" said Cruise. "I'm going to start filming it probably in the next year. It's definitely happening."

So, give it another couple of years and it'll be in the cinemas ready for us to behold in all its glory.
Cruise has never been one to hide away from the fact he wants a second film. Last year we were treated to another major hint when producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared a photo of him and Tom 'discussing' a second Top Gun.
The original film, titled from the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School, saw Maverick (played by Cruise) sent to the school. However, his reckless attitude and cocky demeanour saw him distanced from other pilots, particularly Val Kilmer's character, Iceman.

Maverick isn't just competing to be the top fighter pilot; he is, of course, also fighting for the attention of his beautiful instructor, Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis).
At the end of the original movie, Maverick chose to become a Top Gun instructor - so the sequel could well be about him training the next generation of pilots. We'll just have to wait and see.
