Bill Murray Is The Annoying Best Friend We All Need

The legend is celebrating his birthday today.

Today we celebrate the birth of an absolute legend. Now, I personally think the word legend is thrown around too much these days, but no one can deny that Bill Murray is certified at that status.

As well as starring in some of the best films from my childhood, not to mention his amazing role as himself in Zombieland, Bill recently tended bar at his son's restaurant launch and is well-known in Hollywood as being a proper practical joke lover.

There's loads of stories to back up his legendary status, like this one he told to Rolling Stone. Several years ago Bill got chatting to a cabbie while he was in the back. The driver told Bill that he was a saxophone player, but because he had to work 14-hour days to make ends meet his time to play had a taken a back seat. As soon as he heard this, Bill told the man to pull over and get his saxophone out the boot. He told the cabbie to sit in the back and play while Bill drove the rest of the way. Can you imagine being that taxi driver? Can you imagine coming home and telling your missus that?

There are loads of amazing stories like this but probably my favourite is the one about the regular prank calls he makes to his best pal, Mitch Glazer. Mitch is married to Road House actress Kelly Lynch. Now, if you haven't seen the film, you should know that there is a pretty hot sex scene between Kelly and Patrick Swayze. No matter where he is in the world, no matter what time it is, if Bill happens to come across the film on TV, he will give Mitch a call and say: "Hi, Kelly is having sex with Patrick Swayze right now."

And if Bill happens to be too busy he'll make sure that one of his brothers rings Mitch, just so he knows his wife is being slammed against some rocks by Swayze. When Kelly spoke to AV Club about this joke, she said: "It was funny the first dozen or so times."

That is dedication to being an annoying friend.
