'Billions' Gives Perfect Advice For Anyone Hoping To Become An Entrepreneur

Such a great show.

If you haven't jumped on the Billions bandwagon yet, then I seriously suggest you do. The show is amazing, due, in part, to it's amazing cast - has Damian Lewis ever been in a bad show? But mostly it's down to the razor-sharp writing.

The show centres around the 'cat and mouse' relationship between billionaire Bobby 'Axe' Axelrod (played by Lewis) and district attorney Chuck Rhoades (played by legend Paul Giamatti).

The show is loosely based on the real life legal battles of federal prosecutor of financial crimes Preet Bharara and hedge fund manager Steve Cohen of SAC Capital.

The latest episode of Billions gave a perfect piece of advice for anyone hoping to make it big in the world of business.

For some background Axe is a hedge fund billionaire, his wife, Lara, runs a healthcare business and in the last episode she decided that the time was right to expand. She wanted backers to help her achieve this, telling Axe that she's 'ready'.

He sets up a meeting between her and some people from a venture capital firm, but things don't go well. Lara is pissed because at the meeting she was treated 'as the wife', rather than comforting his wife Axe sides with the venture capital firm.

Telling her: "What is it you do that you're the best in the world at? You offer a service you didn't invent, a formula you didn't invent, a delivery method you didn't invent.

"Nothing about what you do is patentable or a unique user experience. You haven't identified an isolated market segment, haven't truly branded your concept. You need me to go on?

"So why would an investment bank put serious money into it? I all but told you that ahead of time, but you wouldn't listen. Now you've heard it, but it's too late. You. Weren't. Ready."

Brutal, but perfect advice and something I reckon they feel like saying every week on Dragons' Den.
