Up there with Eggheads, The Chase is top of the pile when it comes to weekday entertainment.

It has proven to be the renaissance in host Bradley Walsh's career, which, aside from his role in the TV series of Mike Bassett England Manager, was floundering a touch.

His mix of cheeky charm and quick wit has gained him millions of fans up and down the country but it doesn't always go to plan for the former footballer, as audiences will soon find out in a bloopers edition of the smash quiz.

One of the most impressive things about the show is the money board, which shows just how much dollar contestants can win when they challenge the likes of the Governess or the Dark Destroyer to do battle.

But Walsh was left more than slightly embarrassed when during filming he was caught leaning on said board and cracking it with his fist.

The unseen clip shows the unsuspecting host puffing out his cheeks before punching the table in a moment of madness.

The host tried to cover up the mishap but it didn't quite work.

He says to the contestant: "You've put...," before thumping is knuckles into the game board.

The shocked Walsh quickly realises what has happened but like a true pro he desperately tries to cover up his blunder and save face.

But he couldn't quite fool the audience who burst into a roar of laughter when they see the host desperately try and wipe away the crack, before jumping on electronic board and lying down over the crack to cover it up.

He says: "You've put...I've cracked it I'm so sorry. I can't believe that's happened."

Then asks, cheekily: "Have we got a spare?"

Even Chaser Mark Labbett - aka The Beast - couldn't help but smirk at the chaos.

Jokingly he then asks if anyone's got some spare cash hanging around to help pay for the damage.

He asks: "You know when you've got your £35,000, can you lend me a couple of quid?"

The Bloopers edition has bunch of hysterical moments in store including some form I'm a Celeb' star Anne Hegerty, which sees her fall into a coughing fit in the middle of the show.

Not quite understanding the implications of what she's saying, The Governess reveals: "I've got nuts caught in my throat."

The Chase: Bloopers will be aired on December 23 at 8pm on ITV.
