People Want Rowan Atkinson To Replace Jeremy Clarkson On 'The Grand Tour'

Good idea?

Earlier this week, Amazon posted a piss-take job advertisement which joked about replacing The Grand Tour host Jeremy Clarkson.

Clarkson was struck down by pneumonia while on holiday in July and that illness is reported to have delayed filming for the second season of The Grand Tour.

Truth be told, it's pretty hard to replace Jeremy Clarkson.

That's not to say that he's anything out of the ordinary, or indeed one of a kind as far as presenters go; it's just that someone who can divide opinion, be equally loved and hated, constantly look like a Genesis-inspired mid-life crisis and still be good at their job is hard to come by.

The point is that while at the helm of The Grand Tour, accompanied by Richard Hammond and James May, there's no better fit for the job. That was proved by Chris Evans' shoddy attempt to fill his scuffed desert boots on Top Gear.

However, people think there might actually be one person who fits the bill, and that's comedy legend Rowan Atkinson.

Atkinson has had major success over the years with Black Adder, Mr Bean and Johnny English, and along the way he's never shied away from his love of cars.

Back when Clarkson, Hammond and May were on Top Gear, they tried for years to get the comic in the reasonably priced car, but their schedules did align for a long time.

However, when he eventually did come on he topped the leader board for celebrity guests and was very funny while doing it. Clarkson quipped while interviewing him that 'it's nice to talk to someone like you about cars', to which Atkinson admitted it's the only thing he can talk about.

Atkinson also likes to race in his spare time, which bodes well, and he is very critical of himself. It's not like we needed the proof but he still picked holes in his lap when he became the fastest guest on Top Gear.

He also quite clearly knows his onions when it comes to cars.

When Chris Evans announced he'd left Top Gear after just one car crash of a series, there was a discussion on whether Atkinson should be drafted in to accompany Matt LeBlanc.

It seemed that people on Reddit thought that it could be a good idea, although one that'd likely never come to fruition.

What do you think? Surely there's no point without Clarkson...
