Iain Lee Says 'I'm A Celeb' Traumatised Campmate With Drinking Problems So Much They've Returned To Alcohol

Lee says the show is so 'traumatising' that one of his ex-alcoholic celebrity mates has returned to drinking since being on the show.

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! remains one of the most talked-about UK reality shows on TV, but this year's controversial third place campmate Iain Lee says the show was so 'traumatising' that one of his celebrity mates - who had apparently previously struggled with alcohol problems - has returned to the booze since being on the show.

It's been a popular show in the run up to Christmas for a while now, and last year was no different. We all got a kick out of watching Amir Khan dressed as a black and white cat screaming about snakes, and Iain Lee hysterically laughing at him. Behind the scenes, though, it doesn't sound like Lee or his campmates had quite as much fun.

Lee compared the experience to being a prisoner in Guantanamo Bay in his interview with Good Morning Britain, where he said that the celebrities are put in the back of a blacked-out vehicle with their head bagged in order to get to the trials. So not the long trek to the trial zone that we're all led to believe they do, but more of a scene from Taken.

In the interview with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, he also said: "I know people that were in there that have got issues with drugs and alcohol and things like that, and have come out and have started drinking again. I know one person but won't give any names"

He added: "It's such a surreal, intense experience. There's mind games going on the whole time."

Apart from 'strawberry gate', where he and Amir Khan decided to munch on the strawberries they'd won rather than return them to camp, Lee will also be remembered for going loggerheads with former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise, and mentions this as another reason for finding the experience tough.

I'm A Celeb drew in record crowds again in 2017, achieving the second highest viewing figures of the year for its opening episode with 12.69 million - beaten only by David Attenborough's epic Blue Planet II.

The 2017 series had the third highest number of viewers for its first episode since it started back in 2002. If you can't remember, that was way back when Tony Blackburn was crowned first King of the Jungle.

So while the healthy figures put the show in a good place for coming back this year, it's looking like a bad start to the year for the producers following Iain's comments - and of course with Kiosk Keith having allegedly been axed due to inappropriate behaviour whilst filming this year. Maybe it's time for Kiosk Kath to become a permanent feature after her grand introduction to the show last series?
