Chris Hemsworth has been enjoying a busy few years, after taking on the now-iconic role of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since his debut as the God of Thunder back in 2011's Thor, he's also donned the cape and hammer, he's also featured in The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and, most recently, Avengers: Endgame - the latter of which saw his on-screen alter-ego undergo a bit of a transformation as 'Fat Thor', which Hemsworth admitted was a 'great' storyline to film.

"I got a lot of cuddles," he said on The Graham Norton Show.

"My wife, she's had three kids, and often the pregnant lady will get their belly rubbed in the supermarket and Robert Downey gave me a fair share of those. Everyone wanted to cuddle me... I felt like Santa Claus, you know?"

But now the Australian actor has decided to take a little time out from acting, hoping that he can spend the time focusing on being a dad.

Speaking to Aussie newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Hemsworth revealed he plans to spend more time in Byron Bay - the idyllic coastal town in the eastern Australian state of New South Wales - where his family have been based for five years.

"This year I probably won't shoot anything. I just want to be at home now with my kids," he said.

"They are at a very important age. They are still young and they are aware when I leave more than before."

Hemsworth married model and actor Elsa Pataky in 2010. Together they have three children: a seven-year-old daughter called Insia Rose and five-year old twin sons, Tristan and Sasha.

The star has previously spoken about the difficulties of juggling his work with his responsibilities at home, having told GQ last year that shooting overseas can be particularly hard.

Recalling a time where he had to hop on a plane and fly to London to shoot another film after a blissful few months at home in Byron Bay, Hemsworth said he found it especially tough seeing young India Rose struggling with their goodbyes.

He said "She's normally like, 'Yeah, see you, daddy. Cool." [This time] she was like, 'Papa! Papa! Papa!'.

"She doesn't always call me Papa, either."

Hemsworth added: "I wasn't, like, sobbing, but..."
