Script Writers Say Marvel's X-Force Movie And Deadpool 3 Will Happen

"We'll get there when the time is right, but as of right now, 'X-Force' is next up.”

Last week, superhero fans' dreams were crushed when a rumour suggested the prospective X-Force movie had been cancelled, which came amid speculative fear the Deadpool franchise was set to be another victim of the Disney/Fox merger.

However, a recent Screenrant interview with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick seems to have eased fans' worries somewhat, as the duo discussed their expectations for the potential of a threequel.

When asked about the fate of those precarious movies, and whether the pair would be tackling them together, Rhett replied: "According to the chronology we've established, X-Force will be next, before Deadpool 3."

He then referred to the order in which some of Marvel's other popular hit movies were released, explaining: "It's a bit of the 'Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Avengers, Iron Man 3' model, in that sense."

He went on to state: "X-Force isn't being written by us. It's being written and directed by Drew Goddard [who penned Marvel's Daredevil series and 2015 movie The Martian], or at least that's the plan right now. We're not involved with that one.

"We do anticipate there will be a Deadpool 3 at some point, but it's just a little premature, because it will definitely take a backseat to X-Force for the time being."

Paul chimed in with: "We're constantly in touch with Ryan (Reynolds), and we're always throwing ideas back and forth via text and phone conversations. So, it's always at the front of our minds. We'll get there when the time is right, but as of right now, X-Force is next up."

So no definite dates and Rhett did throw in 'that's the plan for now', which means these plans could change. But at least the pair show confidence that the two films are happening and the Merc with a Mouth will continue to enjoy his R-rated adventures - they just might arrive a little later than expected.

Which is fair enough considering the people involved in making these movies happen have their hands very full at the moment - Rhett and Paul included, as they're currently working on the hotly anticipated Zombieland 2 alongside writer Dave Callaham.

And it sounds like it's going to be as good as the first, with Rhett telling Screenrant: "Zombieland 2 starts shooting in January in Atlanta, Georgia. All the principals are back. We're very excited.

"We think we finally got to a place where we think we got a sequel that's worthy of the first movie. Time will tell if that's the case, but it will come out sometime in October or November, or something like that. Later this year."
