The Trailer For Derren Brown's Netflix Show 'Sacrifice' Has Finally Dropped

'Sacrifice' looks like it'll be his most mind-boggling yet

Ready to have your head messed with? Netflix has just dropped the new trailer for Derren Brown's upcoming special Sacrifice and it looks like it's set to be his most controversial yet.

Netflix

In Sacrifice, Brown has picked yet another unsuspecting victim to take part in - you guessed it - a mind-twisting experiment. This time, we'll get to meet the unsuspecting Phil, who'll be pushed to the point of no return as he faces a terrifying question - will he take a bullet for a stranger?

In the trailer we meet Phil - who has, it's fair to say, pretty strong views on immigration in his native USA, insisting that isn't racist but admitting that he's always been 'more biased towards white people'.

Although Phil thinks he's just taking part in a big group study, really Brown is using a range of psychological tricks to dramatically change his subject's thought processes, with the idea being that maybe these prejudices can be diverted to the extent that he'll choose to take a bullet for an immigrant living in the USA illegally - and a complete stranger, to boot. Should be easy, right? Yeah, piece of piss.

Netflix

The trailer is cautious not to give us too much, so it's completely up in the air what decision Phil will make when the time comes.

But we do get to hear Phil say: "It's been an experience... I can't even begin to say how much it's going to change me moving forward."

Bodes... well, I guess? Still, who's to say what he'll learn throughout the show, and you can bet we'll all be kept guessing with every twist and turn.

In other words, we know it's going to be another on-the-edge-of-your-seat watch from finish to end - not much unlike Brown's Channel 4 hit The Push, where he attempted to convince someone to commit murder.

Netflix

Brown moved away from Channel 4 and on to Netflix earlier this year with his special Miracle, where he reinvented the thoughts behind 'faith healing.

However, Sacrifice marks Brown's first special to have been filmed exclusively for Netflix, and speaking to Graham Norton on his Radio 2 show earlier this month, he talked about making the switch to the streaming platform.

He said: "It feels... in some ways it's different. After years of Channel 4, they knew how we made the shows, in terms of things like the duty of care to the person going through it, if it's a big, dark stunt.

"So, we kind of had tracks that we slotted into to make sure all that was in place, but with Netflix, we're having to explain to them as much about how we make the shows as with fitting in with what they require as well.

"They're brilliant and supportive, but they're also just further away, they're in America. So, we've been entrusted a lot."

After his prior success on The Push, it'll be interesting to see if Brown can convince someone to do the ultimate good deed in Sacrifice, which is set to hit Netflix on 19 October.
