Avengers: Endgame has been out for exactly a week and already people are making plans for the future of the franchise. Can we not just appreciate the present for a little longer, LADs?

This time it's War Machine himself (AKA Don Cheadle) who's given his two pence' worth when it comes to the recent Disney-FOX merger.

When he was asked by Variety which X-Men character should venture over to the world of the Avengers, Cheadle agreed with the suggestion of Ryan Reynolds' character, Deadpool, saying: "Yeah, I think that Deadpool would, I think we want to see that."

He added: "I just want to see Deadpool with these characters. Just something about that seems insane. We wanna see how that works."

This is something that is absolutely possible, considering that the Marvel Cinematic Universe now has the potential to include Deadpool officially.

'But I thought they were all Marvel characters,' you may be thinking, and you're not wrong. However, the characters that formed the MCU (the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy et al) were licensed by Disney, whereas the X-Men and Deadpool were licensed by Fox, creating a divide that meant the two worlds couldn't cross over... until now.

So, while comic book readers might have been used to Spider-Man teaming up with Wolverine on the page, there was sadly no chance of that happening on the big screen.

The merger means that anything is possible.

Well, that isn't the case any longer - the $71.3 BILLION (£54.6bn) deal has brought Fox-licensed characters like the X-Men, Deadpool and even the Fantastic Four into the same deal as the characters featured in the MCU, meaning the odds on future spin-offs and crossovers are pretty damn good.

And with another 20 Marvel films set to hit the big screen between now and 2028, there's no sign of the blockbuster studio letting up, so it might not be long before audiences get to see Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine (no longer played by Hugh Jackman, alas) and Deadpool appearing in each other's movies.

After news that the merger would be completed, Ryan Reynolds did what Ryan Reynolds does best and tweeted a picture to show his excitement:

Marvel fans were quick to comment on the post, sharing their excitement.

One person wrote: "Give em hell on the play ground dp." Another added: "Welcome to your new pool, less cursing less violence but more crossovers!!!"

A third fan said: "Deadpool 1 really got made at the perfect time.. welcome to the party!"

Looks like things are moving quickly.
