Following on from his brief cameo in Game of Thrones last year, singer Ed Sheeran has now landed himself a part in Danny Boyle's latest flick.

The role will be a real stretch for the nation's favourite ginger as he plays...Ed Sheeran, making him the ultimate method actor, in many ways.

Written by Richard Curtis (Love Actually) the movie, which is reportedly titled All You Need is Love, is a music-themed comedy set in a world where the Beatles never existed and only one man, Himesh Patel (who starred as Tamwar in Eastenders), knows the songs.

So, Sheeran will still be testing his acting mettle with the role, as, of course, he'll be playing a fictionalised version of himself.

He told the Associated Press: "I got to actually kind of learn how to act. With the Game of Thrones thing, that was literally me popping in for a day and making a cameo.

"Or Bastard Executioner was me popping in for a day. But this was like full days on set, like full 12-hour days."

In the movie Patel, who plays a singer/songwriter, wakes up one day to find that he's the only person to remember the Beatles. He meets up with Sheeran who invites him on a tour.

"Then he gets much, much bigger than me through doing stuff," Sheeran explained. "Yeah, it's very clever."

Sheeran has reportedly already finished all his parts for the new release, fitting in long days on set around his tour schedule. The film is tipped for a September 2019 release.

"They shot it around loads of my gigs," he added.

"So it was a very intense two months. Because I would have four days of gigging and then three days of shooting a film.

"I was playing myself, so I don't think I was that bad. There wasn't much to mess up."

As well as Game of Thrones, the singer has also popped up in The Simpsons, Bridget Jones' Baby and Aussie soap Home and Away.

Now, given the amount of TV shows and films he's appeared in you'd be forgiven for thinking Sheeran fancies a change of career, but it seems that's not the case.

"I want to make something like [Once]. Something like that where songs dictate the film in a way. I can't see myself playing an Avenger, you know? I don't really want to be actor." Really? You've got a funny way of showing it, mate.
