As the world continues to cry out for a Friends reunion, Ellen DeGeneres decided to take matters into her own hands by staging her very own Central Perk meet-up with the show's stars Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox - aka Phoebe and Monica.

Yes, on today's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Courteney got an unexpected visit from her friend for life when Ellen surprised her with a blast from the past.

The actress was on the show to discuss her new Facebook Watch series, 9 Months with Courteney Cox, a weekly docu-series about pregnancy.

When talk turned to Instagram and how Courteney is finally ready to make her own profile, the TV host decided to offer her a helping hand, instructing her to walk over to a mocked-up TV set for an impromptu photo shoot.

That set was none other than one of those comfy couches from the infamous Friends coffee house, Central Perk, which was a nostalgia blast in itself.

However, after a quip about the giant cups (that might as well have nipples on them) and a quick pose for the camera, Ellen said: "I wish Lisa Kudrow was here, because that would be fun."

And boom! Lisa turned up, much to the delight of the screaming audience. Following an unexpectedly awkward exchange, Phoebe (sorry, Lisa) told Monica (sorry, Courteney): "I wanted to be there for you." Ah, sweet memories.

Looks like the actress has got one hell of an opening shot for her first Instagram post. But does this meeting mean we're any closer to an actual Friends reunion? Not likely, particularly since all the actors are wrapped up in their own arrangements.

Plus, it was less than a year ago that Matt Le Blanc, who rose to fame playing Joey Tribbiani on the NBC sitcom, said that it would never happen, explaining: "I don't think anybody wants to see Joey at his colonoscopy."

"I understand that people really want to see that reunion. But that show was about a finite period in these six characters' lives, between 20 and 30."

Fair play - at least he knows when to call it a day. Shame he couldn't have figured that out before Joey ever made it to air, but at least he got there in the end.
