Ever Wondered What The Man Who Played Mr Blobby Looked Like?

Ever Wondered What The Man Who Played Mr Blobby Looked Like?

'Blobby, blobby.'

The 1990s were a more innocent time, weren't they? We didn't have as much to worry about, the world didn't seem like it was all going wrong and Noel Edmunds and Mr Blobby dominated our screens like an alternate universe Ant and Dec.

I don't think Mr Blobby would work now. People wouldn't be up for a massive pink blob monster running wild on telly. It wouldn't happen. But back in the 90s people bloody loved the Blobs. Couldn't get enough of the googly-eyed bugger.

I never really liked him. I was at a party once when I was about six and a knock-off Mr Blobby was there, he fell onto a kid and nearly crushed him; I still have nightmares about that. Anyway, I digress.

While we all recognise the costume have you ever wondered who was inside it? Does that very question keep you awake at night? Does it?

I assumed it was a bunch of people: whoever was free - the work experience guy, Doris from the BBC canteen, Noel's cousin, etc. Anyway, I'm wrong, it is actually just the one dude. This guy:

His name is Barry Killerby and he played Mr Blobby from 1994-1998. Fans of ChuckleVision might recognise him, because he's a semi-regular actor on the show. He's also a Shakespearean actor, no honestly, he is.

He's a consummate professional, this guy. Check him out in this clip, falling down the stairs and just getting up and getting on with it.

And what is Noel Edmonds - who I always thought was Mr Blobby's dad somehow - up to now? Well, I'm glad you asked.

Since Deal Or No Deal was taken off screens last September after 11 tedious successful years, Edmonds decided that he would like to set himself up as a pet therapist.

For some reason, Noel was letting members of the general public ring him up and putting their beloved pet on the phone while Noel offers them 'motivation'. I don't know.

Guardian writer Peter Ormerod filled in the form, detailing the features of his cat. Noel called him, offering the animal 'words of affirmation and motivation.'

'I never actually thought the actual Edmonds would actually call and actually speak to my actual cat,' Peter said.

Such was the success of the pet life coaching that Noel is now setting up Positively Pets radio station. A radio station completely dedicated to pets and their owners.

He runs a number of 'Positively' stations, you can listen to them here. Positively Sleepy sounds like it's definitely worth a listen, so does Positively Laughing. Enjoy.
