Harry Potter fans, prepare to get excited. Jude Law has been cast as Dumbledore in the next installment of the Fantastic Beasts movie series.

The Dumbledore he plays will not be the elderly one we've become accustomed to on the big screen.
The films are set decades before he actually becomes headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, so he'll probably have brown hair and, weirdly, not much of a beard.
According to Pottermore, at this point he's the wizarding school's Transfiguration professor and a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald. You may remember that in the first Fantastic Beasts movie, Grindelwald was played by none other than Johnny Depp.

Law and Depp have already worked together in the past, oddly enough with another Fantastic Beasts actor, Colin Farrell, when they all played the same character in Terry Gilliam's 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus'.
Returning director David Yates said: "Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I've long admired and I'm looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life."

Law has previously worked with many Harry Potter cast members. In Martin Scorsese's animated feature Hugo, for instance, Law worked alongside Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy), Frances De La Tour (Madame Maxime) and Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley). He also appeared in The Grand Budapest Hotel with Ralph Fiennes.
Fans have taken to Twitter to gush over the news...
The sequel to Fantastic Beasts is slated for release 16 November 2018, and filming begins this summer.
