Filming of the second season of After Life got underway this week - and it seems star and writer Ricky Gervais has been particularly happy to get back to work with one member of the cast.

The 58-year-old, who plays Tony in the popular Netflix show, shared a picture of him posing alongside his character's dog, Brandy, with the caption: "Best day ever."

Brandy, played by German Shepherd Anti in the series, is Tony's (Gervais) faithful companion and reason to keep living after the death of his wife.

The snap has naturally been getting a lot of love on Twitter. One fan wrote: "Aww Anti, such a beautiful girl," while another added: "That gorgeous dog has earned an Oscar!"

A third joked: "Wow, great to see you in character again, you look great! Who's the numpty with the sunglasses next to you...?"

Gervais has been keeping us up-to-date on filming for After Life's second series. Another shot shared earlier this week shows Tony's trailer door, while another shows Gervais waving to the camera, surrounded by members of the crew.

He also shared a photo of himself holding a clapperboard from the first day of filming and one of himself laughing while stood in front of a camera - which is presumably a sign things are going well.

The second season is set to continue filming throughout September and into October, with Gervais previously revealing on Instagram: "I start preproduction on #AfterLife2 next week and film it in September and October.

"Then I'm bringing [his latest stand-up show] #SuperNature to Europe! Madrid, Paris, Berlin, and Prague to start with.

"Stay tuned for details."

He also revealed that he'd been asked to present an Emmy Award later this month, but had to turn it down due to filming commitments.

The first season was a smash-hit for Netflix and it wasn't long before a second season was announced.

It's been a pretty quick turnaround, with Gervais showing off the completed script in August.

As yet, we don't know what the upcoming episodes will have in store for recently widowed Tony as he comes to terms with life without his beloved wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman).

Netflix hasn't announced a release date for the second season, but if you've somehow not got around to watching the first season (inexcusable) it's currently on available on the streaming service.
