First Dates viewers have spotted 'the spitting image' of Michelle Keegan after her doppelganger appeared on the show this week:

Keegan's lookalike, Jess, was on a date with school teacher Richard. The two seemed to hit it off, with Richard even gallantly wiping a bit of food from her nose after it somehow got stuck there. What a gent.

But viewers weren't interested in all that - instead they were busy thinking about Jess' uncanny resemblance to a certain British actress.

Jess, who hails from Harrogate and works as a criminal justice worker - but is also a professional mermaid in her spare time - was the hot topic on Twitter purely because she looked a lot like Michelle Keegan, with her long, dark hair and similar facial features.

One viewer wrote: "Jess reminds me of a young Michelle Keegan. #FirstDates."

One wrote on Twitter: "Jess is the spitting image of Michelle Keegan #FirstDates."

"I can't remember the 'professional mermaid's' name, but she could be Michelle Keegan's sister! #firstdates."

While another commented: "Jess is the spitting image of Michelle Keegan! #FirstDates."

And someone else added: "Michelle Keegan lookalike #firstdates."

To be honest, I'm more interested in the fact that she's a professional mermaid. What does that even entail?

Unlike her First Dates counterpart, Keegan tends to spend more of her time frolicking around in the battle field than in the water, currently starring in BBC series Our Girl - in which she plays army medic, Lance Corporal Georgie Lane, having replaced actress Lacey Turner in the lead role for the second series.

She's admitted that it's about as gruelling as it sounds, and that she can't quite keep up with the real-life military advisers who work on the show (I mean, who could?).

"I couldn't stand the early mornings!" she told Radio Times, when asked how acting compares to the Army.

"Although I'm up early at the minute, we've had two military advisers with us since day one and before they start working at six in the morning they're in the gym at half four. They train every single day without fail. I couldn't do that."

But she continued that she did enjoy one aspect of her job, continuing: "What I do like is rolling around getting dirty while filming. I always tell them to put more dirt on my face, it's really liberating."

Wonder if they've got any scenes coming up involving a mermaid? We've got the perfect stunt double...
