It's already been an exciting week for Wonder Woman fans, with a not-so-subtle hint from director Patty Jenkins that Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) will be re-joining the action in Wonder Woman 1984.

And now things are hotting up even further, as leading lady Gal Gadot revealed what appears to be a glimpse of her fresh costume for the upcoming 2019 sequel.

Granted, it looks pretty similar to the previous movie's costume, but given the somewhat confusing Hollywood habit of reimagining superheroes' get-ups with every consecutive film, we're quite glad that Wonder Woman 1984 appears to be bucking the trend.

Details about the sequel are still unclear, but there have been a few clues revealed by the cast and crew.

In an interview with Variety's Playback podcast, Jenkins said the second film will feature another 'great love story'.

"I did very much thematically want to get to love - because that's what she stands for - and the complexity of what we're facing," she said of the first film.

"These were big themes, like [Wonder Woman] stands for love and truth, which is particularly important right now."

She went on to add: "it's got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again, and a couple new unbelievable characters who I'm so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie."

We also know that Kirsten Wiig has been confirmed to play supervillain Cheetah.

Confirming the new on Twitter earlier this year, Jenkins wrote: "So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It's true. So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned."

There are also rumours that Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pascal will play a key role in the Wonder Woman sequel.

The star is known for playing Oberyn Martell in the HBO series, but exactly what he'll be doing in Wonder Woman 1984 remains unclear.

Unfortunately, it looks like we're going to have quite a wait before we find out anything else, with the film not set to hit screens until the back end of 2019.

We won't know for sure until then whether the new movie will be able to surpass the initial Wonder Woman, which smashed a long list of box-office records, becoming one of the most successful superhero movies of all time.
