So far the final series of Game of Thrones has divided fans - more than 400,000 fans have even signed a petition to have them do it all over again.

And the last episode of the season - 'The Bells' - specifically, has come in for a fair amount of criticism for how it dealt with Daenerys Targaryen's fall from grace.

But some fans have said all this negativity has overshadowed two of the most 'underrated' characters in the show; Arya Stark and Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane.

Praising the odd-couple, one fan wrote: "The hound & arya stark have shared the most beautiful yet underrated friendship on #gameofthrones, their unsaid goodbye will always hurt."

A second said they were: "A truly dynamic duo, best of the best, brought together by rescuing one another & survival of the fittest indeed."

While a third fan put: "Arya's and sandor's (the hound) relationship is the best thing out of Game of Thrones, it's been my favorite ever since they met and I'm so glad and thankful that the showrunners didn't ruin that for me at least."

Fans have said Arya and The Hound were the true stars of Game of Thrones.

"I cant stop thinking bout this duo. The best storyline ever, my most favorite duo of all time. Arya Stark & Sandor Clegane," added another.

For the past few years, fans have watched as their relationship has flitted from love to hate and back to love again. From The Hound opening up to Arya about his scars to the young Stark leaving him to die in the middle of nowhere.

It's been a rollercoaster.

However, their strange friendship came to a devastating end last week when the Arya finally said goodbye to her father figure, as he left her to go and face his brother, in what has come to be known as, 'Cleganebowl'.

Their storyline together has taken them from enemies to almost family.

The emotional scene had millions of fans in floods of tears, with many calling it the best moment of the series.

One teary-eyed viewer tweeted: "Sandor Clegane and Arya Stark. The Hound and the Assassin. This scene nearly broke me man."

Another called it "the saddest goodbye".

"Sandor Clegane, first of his name, the hound, winner of clegane bowl, brother to mountain, protector of arya stark and an unsaid step dad, thank you for protecting arya till the last," wrote a third.

The odd-couple finally said goodbye in episode five as The Hound went to face his brother.

Another said: "Arya Stark & The Hound's Story Arc was one of the best of the entire series."

One fan went so far as to claim it might be the best scene ever, writing: "The goodbye scene between The Hound and Arya might have been the best in eight Seasons."
