Final Season Of 'Game Of Thrones' To Feature Biggest Battle ‘In TV History’

It feels like we've been waiting a sodding eternity for this final season of Game of Thrones, the hallowed HBO fantasy series that's had us all absolutely hooked since its debut in 2011. Even the damn theme tune is catchy, and pops into my head approximately 14 times a day (specifically the cat version, usually, just to add insult to injury).

Well, apparently our patience will be very much rewarded, as actor Vladimir Furdik - who plays the Night King - has revealed there will be an epic battle sequence to open the new season.

"In the third part of the last season, there is a battle that the creators intend to be the biggest in television history," he told Hungarian website SorozatWiki.

"Almost the full episode will be about the battle, it will take about an hour."

While Furdik unsurprisingly wouldn't confirm who's finally going to win the Iron Throne, he said: "It would be an amazing surprise, but I can tell you that there will be no shortage in Season 8."

He added: "There will be a lot of dragons, the Night King will return, and the biggest battle of the season will be completed."

A Game of Thrones holy trinity, if ever there was one.

HBO recently revealed we can expect the final season in April 2019 - sure, it's still a little while off, but at least we've got some answers now.

Earlier this year, HBO President Casey Bloys said they're going bigger and better than ever before for the last hurrah, and that applies to everything from the CGI and battles through to the episodes, which will run for around 90 minutes.

Bloys also explained that this is precisely why we've had a bit of a long wait on our hands - for all the right reasons. Basically, it's taken a while for showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss to finally be satisfied with the product.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "Here's what I'll tell you: they take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality. As the show has gone on, it's gotten bigger - big battle scenes, big special effects.

"These things take time. Here's the one thing I can assure you: Dan and Dave were not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. They're perfectionists and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with."

And given that we've got the biggest battle in TV history to look forward to, it sounds like Bloys ain't bluffing. Roll on April 2019.
