A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...was a bamf with a questionable but incomparable hairdo, running around the solar system in a white nightie, winning everyone's hearts and leading the rebel alliance.

It's been 40 years since Princess Leia burst onto our screens, calling Han Solo a "nerf herder", blasting her way through Stormtroopers, snogging her twin brother and donning that bikini.

Unfortunately the woman who made the role famous passed away at the end of the year (RIP Carrie Fisher). But for the purposes of comedy, the next Princess Leia has stood up. And who knows, maybe it will be like the Doctor on Doctor Who - perhaps every generation will have its own Princess Leia.

But for now, Michelle Keegan, best known for her role on Our Girl, is getting her hands on the iconic role. It's for a a sketch on upcoming The Keith and Paddy Picture Show.

"I'm excited to be part of this new show with Keith [Lemon] and Paddy [McGuinness] and thrilled to be taking on the iconic role of Princess Leia, a strong, female heroine and all round Star Wars legend," she told The Mail.

"I had so much fun and we had such a laugh filming that I can't wait for everyone to see the final result."

It looks epic - celebrities have half an hour to recreate famous films on The Keith and Paddy Picture Show, so we're guaranteed a lot of mishaps, innuendos and laughs. Philip Schofield is going to be Yoda!

The Emperor is going to be played by David Dickinson, which is terrifying. Even Ant and Dec are joining in the fun - as Ewoks.

I wonder who is going to be Han Solo? Or Luke Skywalker?

Of course, Michelle isn't the only person to have slipped into a Princess Leia costume. Over the years, many have tried to step into Carrie Fisher's space shoes, with varying levels of success. Who can forget Tina Fey dressing up as her idol on 30 Rock?

And fan-girl Olivia Munn was an epic Princess Leia, favouring the bikini of Return of the Jedi.

But the winner has to be Jon Stewart. Yes you read that right. The funny man went head to head with Stephen Colbert to see who was the biggest Star Wars fan. They battled it out with lightsabers and dressed up as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it wasn't until Jon donned the hair buns that Stephen conceded defeat.

"I love you," says Jon Stewart.

"I know," Stephen Colbert says back to him.

I have to say, Jon Stewart looks pretty good as Princess Leia. You've got your work cut out, Michelle Keegan!
