Frank, the beloved dog of the Malone family from Gogglebox, has died, with son Shaun breaking the news to fans on Instagram.

In the video above, he can be seen chilling with the family's patriarch, Tom Senior, while another pup's legs dangle below them as it lies on the floor.

Shaun explained that the family had to make the difficult decision to put the 11-year-old dog to sleep, posting a photo of him and the pooch cuddling on the sofa, along with another showing Frank asleep on his lap.

He wrote: "After 11 years with the family it was so hard but best thing to do for him we've had to put my dog frank to sleep R.I.P frankie."

Fans wrote messages of condolence to the family on social media, with one person writing: "Big hugs to you and the family @shaunmalone95 xx RIP Frank sleep well in doggy heaven."

"Sending all my love to you all," another wrote.

Someone else said that they were 'sorry to hear' the news, while another simply said: "Heartbreaking."

The family are often seen with their brood of dogs, which also includes pets Dave and Bob.

Hilariously, Frank was known to run up to Dave and wee on him - something that Tom Senior revealed in one episode.

At least Frank will be able to party it up in doggy heaven with Woodstock, the late dog who belonged to actor Tom Hardy and recently passed away.

Tom's love for 'Woody' - as he was known - was well documented, and he even brought him along to a film premiere once.

In a touching tribute, Tom posted: "He was an Angel. And he was my best friend. We went through so much together.

"He has been on many sets. Met many crews. Photo shoots, premieres, made many, many friends. He was #73 most influential animal in TIME magazine. I don't normally speak out about family and friends but this is an unusual circumstance."

He added: "To the bestest [sic] friend ever. To me and to a family who loved him beyond words and whom he loved without doubt more than I have ever known. Woody was the bestest [sic] of journey companions we ever could dream of having. Our souls intertwined forever."

Rest in peace, doggos.
