If you're missing Leon Bernicoff already, don't fear: you'll still be able to see him firing quips from his armchair on Gogglebox one last time tonight.

Channel 4 has confirmed that it will air a tribute to Leon before his final episode tonight on Christmas Eve.

The retired teacher Leon died aged 83 in hospital yesterday after a short illness, the channel and Gogglebox's production company said in a statement on the family's behalf.

Speaking with Mirror TV, a Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed that the last episode of the series, set to air at 9pm GMT tonight, will be 'going ahead as planned'.

However, the channel will be making a comment on Leon's death on air before the start of the episode, the spokesperson added.

Tonight's episode of Gogglebox will feature a highlight reel of the show's ten series, showing Leon and his wife June, Giles and Mary, the Siddiquis and the Tappers all reacting to telly over the past year.

Leon and June have always been mega popular with viewers with their loving gazes, harmless bickering and cheeky quips (mostly from Leon).

The elderly pair were one of the first couples to join the cast of the cult show when it first began airing in 2013.

The Liverpudlian couple were together for 60 years, getting married in 1960 after meeting at a teacher-training college in 1955.

In an interview with the Sunday People, the pair revealed that Leon's Jewish family disliked June's Catholic upbringing, leading them to keep their relationship secret for four years before they got married. Yikes.

Although their married life was 'stormy at times', the couple were inseparable throughout their marriage.

The pair revealed that while they were together they never spent more than four days apart - pretty incredible, when you think about it.

"Even if she pops to the shops I'm talking to the sofa," Leon told the Sunday People.

June has since posted on social media to paid tribute to her extremely popular husband. Hope that she's holding up alright.

In a tweet, June told the pair's followers: "Thank you folks for all your wonderful messages. Leon would have loved reading them & hearing how much he was loved. Goodnight & God Bless!"

Among the others to have posted their tributes to Leon on social media include his fellow Gogglebox stars Rev. Kate Bottley and Sandi Bogle, his beloved Everton FC and the show's creator Tania Alexander.
