The man who brought you The Shape of Water and Pan's Labyrinth is coming to the silver screen with '10 After Midnight'

Guillermo del Toro is one of those directors that seem like they can turn their hand to anything. He's on something of a high on the back of winning the Oscar for Best Picture with The Shape Of Water, but his repertoire goes far beyond his most recent successes.

There are superhero movies like Hellboy, sci-fi action blockbusters like Pacific Rim and vampire movies such as Blade II, not to mention Pan's Labyrinth, which might be just about the best film of the 2000s.

Stepping out from the camera, del Toro can also boast credits as a producer - on surprisingly mainstream hits like the Kung Fu Panda movies - and even as a novelist, having released a trilogy of vampire-themed books (in his second language as well). What I'm trying to say here is that the man is a bloody genius.

So when the news came out that he's planning a Netflix series, then it was understandable that people began to get very excited. The project is to be called Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight and is described as 'a collection of the Oscar-winning filmmaker's personally curated stories, described as both equally sophisticated and horrific'.

It is set to be Netflix's first horror anthology series, but far from del Toro's first experience of the genre. He has long cited the classic 1970s series Night Gallery as among his favourite shows of all time and a formational piece on his own work.

Speaking a few years back, he told Yahoo: "My golden measure is pretty depressing. Because when I was a child, I watched an episode of Night Gallery called 'The Doll'.

"The Doll turned around and looked at the camera and smiled and I literally just peed like a hose. And I was screaming uncontrollably. And my father just grabbed me and took me into the bathroom and put me in the bathtub... That for me was the highlight; that's as scared as I've ever been in anything."

Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight is credited as 'created' by Guillermo del Toro, but he will be joined by a stellar team.

The Shape of Water producer J.Miles Dale is on board, as is Exile Entertainment's Gary Ungar, who worked on The Strain, and a host of horror writers to help realise del Toro's vision.

I for one can't bloody wait.
