If you ever need a lesson in believing in yourself, then let Gwendoline Christie and Alfie Allen be your guides, because the pair both put themselves forward to be considered for Emmys and have each been nominated in the supporting categories.

Game of Thrones has been nominated for a record-breaking 32 Emmys across a broad selection of categories.

Alfie Allen, who played Theon Greyjoy in GoT, has received a best supporting actor nomination.

As well as receiving a nomination for Outstanding Drama, it also has Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington in lead actor categories.

The show completely dominates the supporting categories, with Christie, Allen, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Peter Dinklage all being nominated.

Carice van Houten, who played Melisandre, also received a nomination for guest star.

It's since been revealed by Entertainment Weekly, that Allen, who starred as Theon Greyjoy, Christie, who played Brienne of Tarth, and van Houten all self-submitted.

Sharing her good news on Instagram Christie wrote: "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! THANK YOU UNIVERSE!" alongside a bunch of 'mind-blown' emojis.

Christie shared the good news with fans on social media.

Speaking to Variety she said: "Oh my good lord, I never ever thought this would happen. I really didn't. I went through every single emotion. I couldn't be more delighted; this is the best day ever. It's amazing so many of us have been nominated. I'm delighted for everybody.

"It's a show we worked on for nearly 10 years. It's meant so much to so many of us. I honestly couldn't feel more overwhelmed, privileged and heartened that people want to see more unconventional female story-lines.

"I'm so excited for Kit and Emilia and Maisie and Alfie, and Nikolaj congratulated me this morning. It feels like a celebration. It was always going to be a situation where not everyone was going to be pleased with the final season.

"People have invested so much time and energy in talking about the show. Everyone had an idea about how it was going to end. It was truly and undeniably spectacular and had epic proportions that nobody has seen before."

While Allen told Entertainment Weekly: "I wasn't expecting [the nomination], it's incredible. There are a lot of actors I admire in that category, just to be there is amazing. Just came home now with my dog and letting it sink in. It's just an honour, man, it's just amazing."

The actors will battle it out - which we can assume they're all used to after years of filming GoT - for the awards on Sunday, September 22.
