So we've had a couple of days now to mourn the loss of Game of Thrones, and safe to say, it's been a mix of emotions for fans.

Some hated it, while others were experiencing such severe withdrawal symptoms that they almost immediately started petitions asking HBO bosses to commission a sequel starring Arya Stark.

Sadly, however, these hopes have been dashed.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO programming president Casey Bloys, said we won't get to enjoy the Night King killer set sail across the Sunset Sea.

BOO!

The HBO boss says there won't be any Game of Thrones sequels.

The TV exec said: "Nope, nope, nope. No. Part of it is, I do want this show - this Game of Thrones, Dan and David's show - to be its own thing. I don't want to take characters from this world that they did beautifully and put them off into another world with someone else creating it. I want to let it be the artistic piece they've got."

But fans of the show needn't be too disheartened by the news. According to Casey, the author of the original books, George R.R. Martin, has created an incredibly vast world with other characters and stories to explore.

He said: "That's one of reasons why I'm not trying to do the same show over. George has massive, massive world; there are so many ways in. That's why we're trying to do things that feel distinct - and to not try and re-do the same show. That's probably one of the reasons why, right now, a sequel or picking up any of the other characters doesn't make sense for us."

But fans needn't be too sad, George R.R. Martin is working on more projects.

And Martin himself has come out and said he is working on more projects, some of which are connected to his literature.

Writing on his blog, the 70-year-old said: "I'm still here, and I'm still busy. As a producer, I've got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel.

"'I'm involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others."

He added: "There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced. I've consulted on a video game out of Japan."
