Hugh Jackman Won't Reprise Role As Wolverine Despite Ryan Reynolds Advances

It's no secret that Ryan Reynolds is eager to get his naughty anti-hero character, Deadpool, on the big screen with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

But it seems after much joking, hinting and even trolling, Hugh Jackman may have hung up his adamantium claws for good.

During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Hugh was asked whether or not the next Deadpool movie would be able to tempt him to return to the X-Men franchise (fingers crossed) after, seemingly, taking his final bow in the 2017 film Logan.

Hugh was far too quick off the mark for this one and wasn't afraid of reminding Ryan Reynolds that he's pretty done with being Wolverine.

"Did Ryan Reynolds ask you to ask this question? Because it sounds like a trick question," he laughed after hearing the interviewer's proposition.

To try and help entice The Greatest Showman actor to show his animalistic side again, Yahoo also asked director Jason Reitman whether or not he'd want to direct the movie.

The Academy Award-nominated director might have been behind some amazing films like Juno and Thank You For Smoking, but Hugh said it would definitely take more than having the director on the new Deadpool movie to crack out his claws and side-burns again

He said: "I love Jason Reitman, and I actually - for all I say - you know I love Ryan Reynolds.

"But right now Ryan, sorry buddy, you're gonna have to work harder than that."

Ryan has been shameless in his attempts to get Hugh on board with a Deadpool project - often taking to social media with quirky jabs and hints.

But Hugh has proven time and time again he can hold his own in the back and forth when he went live on Good Morning America, before the release of Deadpool 2, asking if he could send a personal message to his friend.

Hugh looked straight down the camera and said: "Ryan, I love you, man. I love Deadpool. I can't wait to see the movie, you're one of my best friends. Blake [Lively, the actor to whom Ryan is married], the family, the whole thing.

"But back it up a little. Play a little hard to get. It's too much - It's not sexy."

Maybe Hugh has hung up his Wolverine claws for good - or maybe both actors have a huge secret plan to release the ultimate cross-over. Either way, while we're all waiting, we sure can enjoy the banter between the pair.
