There aren't many films which Tim Burton has directed, produced, or just had a hand in, and they haven't been successful.
In 1993, he gave us Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas - a stop-motion dark fantasy animation based around Jack Skellington.
Jack, from 'Halloween Town', stumbled on a portal which takes him to 'Christmas Town', which lets him celebrate the holiday with some comical consequences.

Traditionally, it's whacked out across TV and dusted off the DVD collection in the run up to December 25 (or maybe even in the days after), and although it doesn't date, we wish there'd be an updated version.

Well, now we're going to get one. It won't be ready for 2017, but it does mean in 2018, on the 25th anniversary since the original was released, there'll be a sequel to the film.

However, there's one slight twist, it will be in comic book-style, and not as an animated series - according to the Hollywood Reporter.
When the film was originally released in 1993 it only had modest success. Costing $18m to make, it yielded just over $75m at the box office. When compared to the success of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with a profit of over $300m and Alice in Wonderland with its $800m-plus gains, it was a drop in the ocean.
However, since then, from generation to generation, it's become a bit of a cult classic - enough now to warrant a part two.

The comic series will be titled: The Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero's Journey. It will be based around Jack Skellington's ghost dog, Zero, and his adventure around 'Christmas Town'.
Produced by publisher Tokyopop, the story will be released in a series of full-colour single issues, released direct to comic book stores, before being released in a collected volume.
The comics are due to released be released in Spring 2018, with further information expected in the coming months.

If the comics are successful you can't just help and wonder if there'll be enough temptation to do a full feature-length film as per the original.
Burton, who himself has no upcoming films for the next year, is currently working on the live-action adaptation of Dumbo - the Disney classic.
The film already has Colin Farrell onboard, along with Eva Green, Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito.
However, that is not due for release until 2019. Come on Tim, don't keep us hanging, we miss your dark and eccentric films.
