If you didn't play various Slender Man games while you were a sad, lonely virgin during your teen years you are lying.

And if you didn't find it terrifying enough to make you do actual out-loud screams you're also lying.

He first cropped up on the forums of Something Awful a good 6-7 years ago now, where he could be found lurking in the background of murder scenes looking all types of hellish.

All it takes is a simple Google search and you'll be launched into the strange fan-fiction world of Slender Man, from fake news reports to 'found footage', the character has become a part of online pop culture over the past several years.

And like all things in popular culture- at some point or another it has to be a movie.

According to Yahoo (via VICE) Screen Gems is in negotiations with Mythology Entertainment, the production company run by Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt, and William Sherak, to produce a film version of the Internet-grown intellectual property.

Yahoo also stated that Madhouse Entertainment and It Is No Dream Entertainment are also involved with the deal, as the two are partners with Mythology in the venture. Mythology acquired the rights for all platforms including motion picture, television, video games, publishing, and more.

It's rumoured to have a 2017 release date and with Mythology owning the rights to EVERYTHING they could well promote it to Star Wars levels of absurdity up to the point where people get sick of the film before they've even seen it.

VICE wrote the the film's lead writer is David Birke who wrote the script for 13 Sins, which sounds as uninspiring as its IMDb rating suggests.
