Jamie Oliver once tricked his nan, putting an empty box of Viagra, filled with Smarties inside her Christmas cracker. You're not going to read a stranger sentence than that, are you?

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Jamie opened up about his family Christmas traditions revealing that he does something called 'hack the cracker', which involves removing the rubbish toy and crappy joke and replacing it with something funnier.

See, when he's not stealing all our sugar or outlawing Turkey Twizzlers, Jamie's a bit of a practical joker and one year, while hosting Christmas dinner for his family, he played a joke on his late grandmother Betty, replacing the usual cheap novelty with an empty box of Viagra he got from a chemist, filled with Smarties, which she opened while sat next to her new boyfriend.

Maybe this is why he's been voted the UK's favourite chef.

Speaking on the show, Jamie painstakingly explained the concept of a Christmas cracker to Americans Matthew McConaughey, John Cena and Hailee Steinfeld, before telling the story.

But if you think his nan would have been left mortified at the gag, then you're wrong, because nana Betty was delighted to see a box of the little blue of pills.

Describing the moment, he said: "She opens it, present comes out - Viagra. Her boyfriend next to her. Her face was like that." As he looked around grinning.

He added: "I said, 'nan, nan, don't worry it's only Smarties' and she went 'oh'."

Jamie had a close relationship with his nan Betty, who died aged 93 in 2013, she even appeared in a number of Jamie Oliver's shows and supermarket adverts alongside him.

Jamie says he spent a lot of time with grandmas for his new book Jamie Cooks Italy, he told the host: "It felt like Luke Skywalker meeting Yoda - I went to see about 50 Yodas and they were teaching me to use the force and 'uncook'.

"It is all about simplicity and restraint. It's about being confident and working with what you've got."

Not sure how the old dears will feel about being compared to Yoda, but I think we get your point, Jamie.
