It's probably fair to say the remake of The Crow is cursed. Not only did it lose its director, but it's just gone and lost the star of the show, too.

Jason Momoa, the machine of a man who played Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones as well as Aquaman in Justice League, has quit the production just five weeks before filming was due to begin, according to Deadline.

Director Corin Hardy has also quit the production.

Hollywood's been trying to remake the iconic film for years, and they'd finally secured themselves a worthy star - looks like it just wasn't meant to be on this occasion.

It's clear that there are no hard feelings between Momoa and Hardy, although there are clearly tensions elsewhere. The Hawaiian-born actor has spoken out on social media about his decision to leave the film.

He said in a recent post, "I've waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will."

He went on to say, "This film need to be set free. And to the fans. I'm sorry.

"I'm ready when it's right."

Momoa also shared a video of his training schedule in the lead-up to The Crow, where his goal was to lose some of his insane muscle mass to fit in with the slimmer character.

It's not the first time a remake of the cult hit has failed - there's been conflict between rights holders and creatives for years now.

The iconic 1994 film starred Brandon Lee as Eric. Lee was the only son of Bruce Lee and his wife Linda, and had followed in his father's footsteps to become an actor and martial artist.

It was Lee's last performance before his untimely death in 1993.

The plot follows a man who is murdered the night before his wedding, but is then resurrected and sets about getting revenge on his killers.

Hardy has also opened up in a lengthy Instagram post, alongside an image of himself and Momoa in full makeup. "Sometimes, when you love something so much, you have to make hard decisions," the post says.

"And yesterday, deciding it was time to let go of this dark & emotional dream project, was the hardest decision of all."

Filming was due to begin in Budapest in a matter of weeks and was pencilled for release in October next year

Maybe next time.
