Jeremy Clarkson has never hidden the fact that he struggled to get on with executives at the BBC.

In an interview with The Times Clarkson revealed the details on those turbulent relationships within the company, including a clash over the death of his mother.

However, the oddest confrontation he had with one of his bosses, Danny Cohen, was being told that his dog's name was racist.

Clarkson, who is a big fan of Chelsea Football Club, named his dog after Didier Drogba, a Chelsea player at the time, calling it 'Didier Dogba'.

The former Top Gear host told The Times that he received a call from Cohen asking him if that was true and what the colour of the dog was. Once Jezza confirmed that it was true, and that the dog was black, he was told it was blatantly racist.

"I confirmed it was true. He said, 'what colour is it?' And I said, 'It's black.' And he said, 'you can't call your black dog after a black football player.' So I said, 'why not? Would you rather I called it John Terrier?'", he said.

It's one of quite a few accusations of Clarkson being racist, but it could be argued that naming a pet after a beloved footballer is motivated by adoration, rather than racism.

The 51-year-old told The Times that it certainly wasn't the first thing he and Cohen had a disagreement over, and wasn't the last.

"Normally, you could find some common ground with somebody, but I think Danny and I could probably only get on perfectly well so long as we absolutely never had to think about each other for the rest of the time," he said in the interview. "Because I don't mind anyone having an opinion that's different to mine, just so long as they don't mind my opinion either. So long as it doesn't impinge on what I want to do," he continued.
