Jim Carrey Gives Yet Another Bizarre Interview

Jim Carrey Gives Yet Another Bizarre Interview

He's making a habit of not going down the traditional route.

Over the last few months Jim Carrey has made a point of making interviews a bit more abstract than usual.

On various occasions when interviewers have tried talking to the esteemed actor he's intentionally made it difficult for them, going off on tangents. He later attributed those rants to him being lost in a character.

The latest occurred when he appeared on the Norm MacDonald Live podcast. It began in an odd way, as he stood with his back to camera before serving up some kakao coffee. He went on to take apart the set, then "sandbagged" his arm to stop him from using his phone.

But then he entered into another realm when he began to speak about erasing himself after claiming he has no ego whatsoever.

"I'm erasing myself, like, I'm not even fucking here right now," he said. "I don't exist, I have no needs, I don't need you people.

"None of it, nothing. I don't need approval from anybody.

"There's no 'me' involved. I've already crossed the river of tears.

"All I need is water and to drink it in interesting ways." He then proceeded to throw his water into the air, catching a gulp of it in his mouth.

MacDonald was pretty impressed by Carrey's ability to drink that way, and just as amazed by his ambition to "strangle the ocean".

The actor then went onto explain to the host exactly who he is.

"There's no Norm Macdonald. Norm Macdonald is a name, he has a religion, he has a nationality, he has a hockey team that he loves," he said.

"These are the fucking abstract fucking building blocks that he cobbles together into some sort of pseudo-fucking-personality that can be identified by the police!"

This sort of behaviour started last month when people weren't sure whether to laugh at him or simply be concerned for his welfare, as the veteran comedy actor gave a rather strange interview at the 2017 New York Fashion Week Harper's Bazaar Icons Party.

Many were of the opinion the Ace Ventura star was simply trolling an E! News reporter - albeit so hard that she was genuinely left speechless - as he told her: "There's no meaning to any of this." However, others were concerned that this reflected his well-documented mental health struggles.

He went on to explain his behaviour during the interview to the Hollywood Reporter: "It's kind of an interesting perspective on what came from losing yourself in a character, and realising you're a character who has been playing you your whole life," Carrey said. "A lot of people think that I'm kinda going through something - but it's been my whole life.

"When I tried to go back and play Jim Carrey, I got depressed, and now I don't try to do that anymore."
