Jon Bernthal's Punisher Is Getting His Own Netflix Series

It was only a matter of time.

Presumably Marvel had always planned for their Netflix TV shows to be a hit, but I think the quality and success of them has surprised just about everyone else.

Some are hailing Daredevil as one of the finest TV shows ever and while that's a bold claim it's definitely one of the best that is on our screens right now. It boasts everything from strong story arcs, mind-blowing fight scenes and a flawless cast.

From Vincent D'Onofrio's unnerving Wilson Fisk to Jon Bernthal's hard-hitting but supremely damaged Frank Castle AKA The Punisher.

Daredevil's second season premiered on Netflix on March 18th and was almost instantly met with universal acclaim, much the same way as its debut season was. Bernthal's performance as Frank Castle was also praised by many for its rawness and the emotional vulnerability he gifted to a character who essentially just walks around murdering people.

Talking about the onscreen relationship that Castle and Daredevil share Bernthal told Empire that "Frank is so filled with rage and despair that this idea of a guy prancing around in a costume with little horns beating up bad guys is absurd to him."

"It's ripe for a character like Frank to come in and shit on that. What's really interesting is that these guys are absolute enemies, but they start to understand each other."

There had been rumours for some time that a standalone Punisher show would be greenlit but today those rumours have been confirmed. EW reported that Marvel has just ordered a new series starring the gun-toting vigilante first introduced in Daredevil season 2.

This will be Marvel's sixth show that will be housed on Netflix, and after the success of both Daredevil and Jessica Jones it's certainly a smart move. It will also join Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders on the streaming network.

Right now there is no other news on the series, except that it's definitely happening, but Bernthal's Castle should hopefully return to our screens rather than later.

The brief Twitter teaser says the show is 'coming soon' so don't be too surprised if it arrives some time in 2017.
