Jon Hamm Wants To Replace Ben Affleck As Batman

Jon Hamm Wants To Replace Ben Affleck As Batman

'Mad Men' star Jon Hamm is a huge comic book fan - and has thrown his hat into the ring to replace Ben Affleck as Batman

Jon Hamm is known as the suave advertising director Don Draper in Mad Men, a part that was heavy on sitting around smoking, sipping whisky and womanising.

It probably isn't the role that would stand its lead actor in good stead for a transition to a high-paced, high-octane action hero, but for Jon Hamm, it appears that where there is a will, there is a way.

And he thinks that he can play Batman. That's right - Don Draper, the Caped Crusader. He'll probably have to knock the fags on the head for a start.

Hamm was speaking to journalist Graham Bensinger and expressed an interest in the role, which is due to become vacant soon, with current incumbent Ben Affleck reportedly unlikely to last much longer in the role.

"It depends on the script, what the story is," said Hamm. "I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I've read comic books since I was nine or younger. And I'm pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they're done well.

"I'd probably fit the suit. I'd have to work out a lot, which I don't love. But, I am sure there's an interesting version of that being out there. And if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it, why not?"

While it might not seem the most obvious career move for Hamm, the idea has actually been kicking around the Internet for a decent while.

"I have had rumors about that since probably season one of Mad Men," explained Hamm.

"I have never had a conversation with anybody about it, literally. And I've sat in the room with all these guys. I have never been offered anything. I think the Internet wants what it wants. But, I mean, a lot of people have to sign off on that, obviously not just the Internet."

Ben Affleck is reported to have ditched the last Batman role citing overwork and is not expected to return to the role.

He was initially listed as actor, director and writer of prospective movie The Batman, which was due to have been made in 2017, but production has stalled. Affleck will now only produce, with filming set to begin at the start of next year.
